Mikki was raised by a single mother who was a migrant farmworker. Her mother taught her the importance of education by participating in a welfare to work program and becoming a nurse while raising her daughters. Mikki lives in Portland with her children, Joaquín and Lydia, who are both college students. Now that her kids are grown, she is spending more time traveling and visiting family in Mexico. When she’s not outdoors kayaking or hiking, you might find her working on household remodeling projects or planning her next international adventure.
