VERONICA S. LEONARD

Associate Deputy Director of Programs

Veronica joined Latino Network in 2015 as the Youth Sexuality Education Coordinator. She established and grew the agency's sexuality education programming over the next several years as she shifted into roles with greater responsibility and expanded scopes of work. In July 2020 she launched the newly formed Department of Health and Wellness, overseeing the creation of the agency's Covid response programs, including wraparound services, education and outreach, testing and vaccine access. She also built on the agency's long standing experience in the field of Community Health Workers by building a CHW Workforce Development program. She was promoted to Associate Deputy Director of Programs in March 2023.

She serves on OHA's PartnerSHIP, a community-based steering committee that oversees implementation of Healthier Together Oregon, Oregon's 2020-2024 State Health Improvement Plan. She also serves on the Reproductive Health Equity Fund's steering committee, which is charged with developing priorities and ensuring the $15 million allocation from the Oregon Legislature reaches Oregon communities impacted by historic disparities in access to reproductive care, including rural, tribal and undocumented communities, and communities of color.

A recent immigrant from Mexico, Veronica's prior experience includes three years at Católicas por el Derecho a Decidir (Catholics for the Right to Decide) in Mexico City, a women and youth sexual and reproductive rights organization. She has also implemented and evaluated youth sexual health programs in North Carolina and Guatemala. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Oregon, and a dual master’s degree in Social Work and Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
