CHW Workforce Development ProgRAM
The CHW Workforce Development Program empowers community health workers (CHW) to tackle health disparities through community education. We offer culturally specific, Spanish-language training and workshops that emphasize empowerment, leadership development, and active participation using popular education tools and valuing the lived experience of each and every participant. Our program supports Latino community members in achieving and maintaining their Community Health Worker (CHW) certification under the Oregon Health Authority’s Traditional Health Worker (THW) model.
1) Nosotros Somos Salud: The THW-CHW training program offers 103.2 hours of comprehensive, culturally appropriate instruction in Spanish. Covering 25 health-related topics, including Oral Health and Nutrition, the majority of the training is delivered virtually. Participants receive all materials in Spanish and earn a certificate of completion upon finishing the workshops. Additionally, we provide coaching to help participants obtain their OHA Certification.
Eligibility Requirements: To participate, attendees must complete all workshops, have a basic understanding of internet use, and possess a computer with a microphone and camera (Chromebooks are available for loan if needed). Additionally, experience working with the Latino community in Oregon is required.

2) Continuing Education Units (CEUs): Designed for community health workers (CHWs), these sessions cover essential topics related to the health and well-being of the Latino community. Our workshops address key topics, including Tobacco Cessation (quitting smoking), OYE (choices and sex education for CHWs), nutrition and its effects on health, mental health first aid and suicide prevention, and emergency preparedness, fostering valuable skills to improve community health. Below are some of the topics CEUs we provide:
• Tobacco Cessation: evidence-based techniques and resources to support individuals in their journey to quit smoking and live healthier lives.
• Sexuality Education: Knowledge and understanding about sexual health, consent, relationships, and reproductive rights, fostering a culture of respect and empowerment in the community.
• Nutrition and Health Effects: Explore the principles of healthy eating, meal planning, and nutritional strategies to promote overall wellness and prevent chronic diseases.
• Mental Health: Learn about common mental health challenges, stigma reduction, and self-care practices to support mental well-being for yourself and others
