RESPONSE TO THE SCOTUS decision ON ROE V. WADE

The news that the Supreme Court has drafted a document with a majority of justices voting to overturn Roe v. Wade is disheartening and unacceptable. The right to an abortion has been the law in our country for nearly 50 years. Abortion restrictions disproportionately affect Black, Latino, Indigenous, and other people of color. Latino Network stands with all who support and defend the fundamental human right to health care, including abortion. Everyone should be able to decide if, when and how they want to become a parent.

We want our community to know that the draft opinion is not an official ruling and that abortion is still legal in all 50 states. Abortion providers across Oregon continue to provide the full range of healthcare needed by pregnant people.

If Roe v. Wade is overturned, abortion will still be protected by state law in Oregon. Latino Network will work hand in hand with our community partners and reproductive health justice rights groups to ensure that the state strengthens existing laws in Oregon that allow pregnant people to have full access to the range of healthcare they need.

Overturning Roe v. Wade could lead to the loss of additional rights designed to protect all communities. We must send a strong message to the Supreme Court and to Congress that overturning fundamental rights like this will not be tolerated.
